Suffolk Speech Therapy has been set up by Kimberley Downing, Speech and Language Therapist, to provide private speech and language therapy services across Suffolk for children from  0-16 years of age.

Since qualifying from Leeds Metropolitan University with a BSc (Hons) in Clinical Language Sciences, Kimberley has worked in a mixture of paediatric speech and language therapy posts for the NHS in Suffolk alongside her independent work, including:
 

• Community clinics with preschool and school aged children working on a range of communication difficulties including poor listening and attention, speech delay/disorder, language delay/disorder and developmental difficulties. Kimberley has acted as Assistant Pathway Lead in this team, alongside a clinical role.

• Schools for children with a range of needs including children with EHCPs

• I currently hold a Highly Specialist SLT role at Stowmarket Child Development Centre, working with preschool children with complex needs, and as part of multi-disciplinary diagnostic assessments for autism spectrum disorders.

 

Kimberley has also held Associate Clinician positions with the 'Centre for FASD' (between 2019-2022) and with 'SEN.SI Treatment' in 2022 and supported with student education for trainee therapists from UEA and University of Essex.

I am involved in formal and informal training of staff/parents and other professionals for therapy techniques and other elements of communication. Since qualifying I have completed extensive continuing professional development activities including an Open University module ‘Understanding the Autistic Spectrum’, training at Sheffield University for auditory processing difficulties, Symbol training for working with Down Syndrome, Talktools level 1 and 2 training, training in the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Makaton signing.
